Trinamool-Congress combine inflicts humiliating defeat on CPI(M)

The Trinamool Congress-Congress alliance is poised to sweep the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal inflicting a humiliating defeat on the CPI-M-led Left Front, bagging 10 seats and leading in 16 others.  

Trinamool's  Left ally Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) was also leading in Joynagar (SC) constituency.  

The Left Front was way behind the Trinamool-Congress alliance as they won seven seats and leading in seven other constituencies.  

Senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh won by a massive margin of over 2.52 lakh votes in Darjeeling constituency. 

Trinamool Congress alone bagged eight seats and its ally Congress two.  Prominent winners included Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee (Kolkata South), Basudeb Acharya (Bankura) and Dinesh Trivedi (Barrackpur).
