Tripura records higher female growth figures

The percentage of growth in female population has soared to 15.55 per cent overtaking the male growth figures of 13.98 per cent for the last decade in Tripura, according to the provisional census report.

Director of Census Dilip Acharjee said overall sex-ratio in the state had increased from 948 to 961, but the birth of girl child (0-6 years) declined from 966 to 953 against every 1,000 population in 2011.

He said Tripura's total population rose from 3,199,205 to 3,671,032 recording 14.75 per cent growth in last one decade and added the population density of the state also rose from 305 to 350.

 

Acharjee said literacy rate increased by 14.56 per cent which now stands at 87.75 per cent in Tripura, the fourth highest in the country and added the number of illiterates reduced from 740,658 in the last decade to 395,235 in 2011.
