Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao today threatened to go on a fast-unto-death if Telangana statehood is not realised next year after the Srikrishna Committee submitted its report.

Observing that the agitation would be fierce if statehood is not granted to the underdeveloped region in Andhra Pradesh, he vowed to launch the indefinite hunger strike again for achieving the goal, if necessary.

The party would firm up its strategy on how to organise the agitation in the event of a disappointment after the committee submitted its report to the Centre, he said.

It was Rao's fast and his arrest in advance that led to a spell of bloody agitation for Telangana in December last year.

The former Union Minister had earlier warned of a "civil war" if Telangana was not realised after the Centre-appointed committee submitted its report.

He, however, had said "civil war" does not mean that people would take up arms, but an atmosphere of severe resentment and anger prevailing in Telangana.
