All markets on the Relief Road and the Gandhi Road remained closed today. These areas comprise the retail cloth, hardware, electronic goods, tarpaulin, electrical goods and jewellery markets.
Police and para-military personnel patrolled the area on Monday. Curfew was clamped in the Kalupur and adjacent Dariapur areas, while Rapid Action Force (RAF) personnel were deployed in the area.
Both the persons killed were from the majority community, the police said. While one person was burnt alive on the Relief Road, the other died in stone throwing near the Zakaria Masjid in the Kalupur police station.
According to the police, about 20 tear-gas shells were fired to disperse the mob. Of the five injured, two are reported to be serious and have been admitted to VS Hospital.
