A recent government exercise to detect bogus LPG connection holders has detected an estimated 2 million such connections, food and civil supplies minister Shobha Karandlaje said here today.
She said, her department undertook the drive, directing all households with LPG connections to file details of their Electric Metre Registration Roll (RR) number along with the LPG Consumer number to their gas distributors. “The process of loading data into computers filed by consumers is on and will be completed in about a month. Once completed, we will know how many bogus gas connections are there.
As per available information, it is suspected about 2 million illegal connections are there”, she said.
She most LPG Distributors are responsible for bogus connections as they have forged documents and sell domestic cylinders for commercial purposes to for monetary purposes.
The government will decide on action to be taken against the dealers and cancellation of bogus LPG connections, she said.
On the power supply front, she claimed there is no load shedding and the entire energy demand of about 158 to 160 million units per day is being met with. The Centre provided about 947 Mw to the state as against its allocated 1,534 Mw, she said.
