Two thermal power projects approved

Two thermal power projects with capacity to generate a total 2,500 Mw were approved by the Karnataka State High Level Clearance Committee on Investments chaired by Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy here on Tuesday.
 
Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL), which operates the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) and Bellary Thermal Power Station (BTPS), has been entrusted with the task of commissioning the two projects.
 
One power station (1,000 Mw capacity) will come up in Raichur at an investment of Rs 4,160 crore. The second power project (1,500 Mw capacity) will be located at Bellary with an investment of Rs 6,300 crore.
 
"Work on both the projects will commence shortly since KPCL is in possession of the land required," industries minister Katta Subrahmanya Naidu said.
 
The state-owned KPCL operates four major hydel power stations, two thermal power stations and a wind firm with an installed capacity of close to 5,000 Mw per year.
