The United Front yesterday revealed its chinks in the Lok Sabha when Janata Dal working president Sharad Yadav and CPI(M)s Somnath Chatterjee clashed over the leaking of a top secret CBI report on the Bofors gun deal investigation.

Sharad Yadav sided with Congresss Priyaranjan Das Munshi in attacking the CBI, not only for leaking the document but also for naming former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as the main accused. I dont know how the CBI is going to arrest a dead person, he said. Somnath Chatterjee spoke like Jaswant Singh of the BJP. His remark it was extremely important that the Bofors matter is finalised and the country knew about it was not liked by neither the Congress nor Yadav. Yadav commented that since Somnathji had abandoned us, we have also abandoned him. He repeated it for the benefit of the House and Pappu Yadav wanted to know if he meant what he said.

Somnath yesterday went on disturbing Yadav by making cryptic remarks on whatever Yadav said on the Bofors issue and the CBI directors role in it.

When it was his turn to speak, after Yadav, Somnath carried it forward : Suddenly Yadav finds that the PM is not asserting himself. But Gujral should know that the country wants to know the truth behind the Bofors gun deal.
