Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has said the United Front would contest next general elections on its own as a third force in the country.
During his visit here, Gowda told reporters here on Wednesday that various UF constituents would come for a minimum common programme as their political ideology since they have been working on the same programme in the government.
When asked about the performance of the Janata Dal in Uttar Padesh, he said his party was weak in the state but efforts to strengthen it would be made soon.

By strengthening the JD it would not be our motive to weaken any other constituent of UF in the state, he said.
He said he was trying to regain the lost ground of his party in Uttar Pradesh but his party would not contest those seats only to loose in the state.
Replying to a question about the performance of the Bahujan Samaj Party and Bhartiya Janta Party coalition government, he said the coalition government proved better in comparisn to the Governors rule at least in the sense that it was an elected and democratic government.
When asked if the UF government was furthering the economic policies of previous Congress government, Gowda said it was wrong to say that the present UF government did not change the policies as he himself vehemently opposed the withdrawal of subsidy from the agriculture sector.
He said he would never allow any one to harm the agriculture sector as it was backbone of the country.
Replying to another question, he said it was baseless to say that the Union government was delaying the tabling of Jain Commission report as Prime Minister IK Gujral has assured that he would table the report in the next session of Parliament alongwith the proposed action of government to be taken on the basis of the report.
He said the UF government was in favour of liberalising the economic policies and it was already acting on that line properly.
He said the Union government has started several measures to remove poverty and launched public welfare schemes at a large scale. Earlier, Gowda visited ancient Kashi Vishwanath temple and other temples for darshan and pooja amidst tight security.
