In keeping with the season of sowing paddy, Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) has decided to supply electricity for eight hours everyday to agricultural tubewells in the state with immediate effect.

A spokesman of the UHBVN said the state had made banking arrangement for the short term supply of power under which 300 Mw from Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, 60 Mw from Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board, 40 Mw from NVVN, Assam, 100 Mw from NVVN, Orissa and 100 Mw through Power Trading Corporation, Orissa would be made available. The State has also arranged for a 116.4 Mw power from Government of Himachal Pradesh through PTC for the month of June.

He said the arrangement for the supply of power had been made keeping in view the annual load growth and an expected 10 per cent less rainfall during the monsoon this year.

It has been observed that a daily eight-hour power supply to tube wells last year was sufficient for the agriculture sector and that there was no damage to crops caused by inadequate power supply.

He said that power availability and supply position would be monitored on a day-to-day basis and if need be the State would also procure electricity on daily basis.

The spokesman added the Nigam would supply 20 hours of power to urban domestic consumers, 16 hours to industrial consumers and 12 hours to rural domestic consumers.
