Taking a serious note of allegations of corruption in the regularisation of illegal constructions in Ulhasnagar, in adjacent Thane district, Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Vasant Davkhare on Thursday directed the state government to transfer the municipal commissioner of the civic body immediately.

Reacting to a calling attention motion in the council by Shiv Sena member Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, Davkhare said he too was aware of corruption in Ulhasnagar and the fact that illegal constructions continued to mushroom in the town.

He directed the state government to transfer Ulhasnagar Municipal Commissioner by tomorrow to which minister of state for urban development Rajesh Tope assured the house that the government would take immediate action in the matter.

Davkhare also said he would launch an agitation in the house if the government did not take any action immediately and asked that the government arrest all guilty officers within a week.

In the calling attention motion, Gidwani alleged that there was corruption in the regularisation of illegal constructions in the town following the government's order to this effect in January this year.

He also demanded that an independent committee under the leadership of an IAS officer be set up to oversee the regularisation of the illegal constructions.
