After a long hibernation from active politics, Uma Bharati today surfaced in public to officially announce her support for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh. While making it clear that BJP chief Nitin Gadkari and L K Advani had requested her to rejoin BJP, Bharati said she would restrict herself to the “non-political” arena to launch a nationwide movement to protect farmers and cows. She said the growth in the incidents of farmer suicides in Madhya Pradesh was unfortunate.
“Farmers here are depressed and distressed. We need to have a blanket ban on cow slaughter nationally so that farmers can opt for bullocks instead of getting loans for tractors. I will launch ‘Brijees Nagar Movement’ in a few days and also seek the support of the Muslims in this regard,” she said.
