The leaders tactics could include engineering defections in other parties like the Bhujan Samaj Party, Bharatiya Kisan Kamgar party or the Congress (Tiwari). According to one senior party leader, the party is willing to make any compromise to form the government except giving up the post of Chief Minister.
The partys inner circle believes that the BJP might fall 10 to 15 assembly seats short of a majority in the house of 425. A general secretary said that the BJPs tally would be somewhere between 190 to 225.
If there is a shortfall, it could be supplied by either one of the partners of the United Front, a part of the BSP or independents, he said.
The BJP would not allow a repeat of the experience at the Centre, when former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee resigned after the party failed to get the support of other political groups for its government.
