After naming some of the leading corporate houses in its coal FIRs, CBI is now widening its probe into the coal block allocations between 2006 and 2009. Some of these blocks, allocated during this period, went to companies like Tata Steel, Monet Ispat, GVK Power, DB Power and Visa Power. CBI is expected to submit its status report to the apex court, which will include the findings of its FIR against Kumar Mangalam Birla by the end of this month and its progress with respect to its ongoing preliminary inquiries.
