The BJP yesterday criticised the CBI undertaking to the Patna High Court that it will not arrest Bihar Chief Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav till July 21, when the chief ministers bail petition in the Rs 950 crore fodder scam is listed to be taken up for consideration.

The party charged that the CBI undertaking was given under pressure from the central government in general and Prime Minister IK Gujral in particular.

I have no hesitationn in saying that the Prime Minister is pressurising the CBI not to act in the case of the Bihar Chief Minister, BJP spokesperson Yashwant Sinha told newsmen at the partys routine briefing. He also charged that Gujral is not only not acting himself but also preventing the CBI from acting in order to save his chair.

Who has been instructing or obstructing CBI joint director U N Biswas, in the absence of CBI director Joginder Singh, Sinha asked. The CBIs stand is ridiculous, and has put a serious question mark on the investigative agencys intentions, he added.

The CBI had earlier said that Yadavs arrest was not ruled out, Sinha pointed out and asked from the central governemnt the factors that had changed ther CBIs attitude. The court had not asked for the undertaking, he further pointed out.

Linking Gujral with the whole episode, he said,we have a weak and ineffectual Prime Minister, who is interested only in postponing his doomsday. Gujral, who is listed in the voters list as a resident of Sabji bag (Patna) and has become a Rajya Sabha member from Bihar, should relate himself to the people of Bihar, Sinha said, taking a dig at the Prime Minister.
