Unesco Team Arriving To Help Protect Taj

The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) will soon send a team of experts to India to discuss the issue of protecting the Taj Mahal with the ministry of tourism and culture.

This was stated by Unesco Director-General Koichiro Matsuura here today. He said he had held discussions with Tourism Minister Jagmohan on the controversial Taj Heritage Project.

Matsuura said he and Jagmohan shared a common concern for the 17th century monument and had deliberated on how to protect it from illicit construction and pollution. The Rs 175 crore Taj Heritage Project was stalled mainly because of Jagmohan
