UP approves Sahara land transfer deal

Press Trust Of India New Delhi/ Lucknow
The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the land transfer deal between Sahara Housing and Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) and subsequent construction on the land, revoking the then Chief Minister Kalyan Singh's order to demolish the structures in 1999.

LMC had transferred 170 acres to Sahara Housing, a sister concern of the Sahara Group, in 1994 in the Gomti Nagar area after taking it from the Lucknow Development Authority.

According to sources, the government has accepted the contention of Sahara Housing that the transfer and subsequent construction on the land was in accordance with the rules.

The transfer was cancelled by the BJP Government in 1999 saying the Corporation was not the owner of the land and so could not enter into an agreement with Sahara.
