To ensure smoother land acquisition process and rehabilitation of families, Uttar Pradesh government today appointed respective divisional commissioners and district magistrates as ex-officio commissioners and administrators for different projects.

UP government has under consideration acquisition of over 83,000 acres of land by 9 development authorities constituted under the UP Industrial Area Development Act, 1976.

The 9 development authorities, include New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (Noida), Bhadohi Industrial Development Authority (BIDA), Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA), Satharia Industrial Development Authority (SIDA), Greater NOIDA, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), UP State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), Lucknow Industrial Development Authority (LIDA) and UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA).

For Noida and Greater Noida projects, Meerut commissioner has been appointed as ex-officio commissioner and district magistrate (DM) Gautam Budh Nagar as ex-officio administrator.

Similarly, for Lucknow Industrial Development Authority (LIDA) and Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA), the respective commissioner and DM of Lucknow and Kanpur are the ex-officio officials.

For Yamuna Expressway DMs of Gautam Budh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Mahamaya Nagar, Mathura and Agra and commissioners of Meerut, Aligarh and Agra are ex-officio administrators and commissioners respectively in their areas.

According to the state industrial development department, the ex-officio administrator would seek alternative ways to cause minimum dislocation during land acquisition.

Besides, they would prepare the blueprint and finalise budget for land acquisition and rehabilitation and coordinate with different agencies. The ex-officio administrator would ensure the interests of the downtrodden, poor and backward classes are protected in the process.

The ex-officio commissioner would supervise the whole process under his/her jurisdiction and ensure effective implementation of the rehabilitation policy.

Recently, land acquisition hurdles had slowed down the progress of several mega projects notably Yamuna Expressway and LIDA.

According to details provided by the Mayawati government in the assembly during the last monsoon session, maximum 32,260 acres had already been acquired by Greater Noida, followed by 23,559 acres by Noida.
