The 2X500 Anpara C, thermal project, appears to be all set to be another Sasan for the Lanco Kundapalli as the power regulator UP State Electricity Regulatory Commission, (UPSERC) has issued notice to the Lanco Anpara Power Pvt Limited, on a petition challenging the change in project capacity of Anpara C Thermal power station from 1,000 MW to 1,200 MW. This project is already behind schedule by eight months.

The Lanco has floated separate subsidiary Lanco Anpara Power pvt Ltd, for the project in Sonbhadra district of UP.

Lanco Infratech, another company that is part of the Lanco Group, was in the news in 2007, when the 4,000MW ultra mega power project at Sasan in MP, was taken away from it and awarded to Reliance Energy Ltd through a rebid because the Lanco had flouted some bid conditions.

Lanco has sought increase in capacity of the Anpara C project to 2X600 or 1,200 MW. The Lanco's application for increase in capacity of the project was approved by the UP government on August 20, 2007.

UP government in its order had however said that Lanco will seek the approval from the power regulator for the increase in capacity of the project from 1,000 MW to 1,200 MW.
