UP ready for polls: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) SY Quraishi today said preparations for coming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls are complete and strict guidelines relating to expenses will be implemented this time.

"Preparations for Assembly elections are complete," he told reporters here.

Quraishi said work on electoral rolls and voter identity cards is almost complete and the Commission is all set to conduct free and fair elections.

The CEC said to check use of money power, strict guidelines relating to expenses will be implemented.

He said to give information regarding rules and regulations, a training session of political parties was held in Delhi two weeks back.

 

Quraishi said in future similar training sessions would be organised at local level as well.

He said during meeting with representatives of political parties several suggestions were received.

"We assured them we will take effective action on their demands," the CEC said.

This time the Commission would provide photo voter slips to electorates, he said.

The UP Assembly elections are likely to held in February or March 2012.
