The Uttar Pradesh government has slammed the Centre for its ‘ambiguous’ policy in allocation of power from the central power projects to the states.
The government said the Centre allocated power to the respective states arbitrarily and in gross violation of the earlier set norms.
The state energy department has further lamented allocation of ‘mere’ 10 per cent power to UP from the thermal power project of the
NTPC Ltd at Dadri, while giving 90 per cent power to a small state like Delhi.
In a press communique, the energy department spokesperson said UP should get at least 30 per cent share of power from the Dadri project according to its vast geography and population vis-à-vis Delhi.
“Considering the massive shortage of power in UP, the state government has been urging the Centre to provide more power to us from central projects, however the union power ministry has routinely ignored our requirements,” he added.

Besides, allocation of 90 per cent power to Delhi is a gross violation of the Gadgil formula, which governs the share of power between the Centre and the respective state government in central power projects, he said.
Gadgil formula has been guiding the allocation of power from central power projects to UP viz Unchahar, Rihand and Singrauli. NTPC has set up two 490 Mw thermal power units at Dadri.
Delhi faces a shortfall of 500 Mw power during summers, while in UP this chasm is over 2,500 Mw. “The Centre has not taken any definitive measures to ameliorate the scarcity of power in Uttar Pradesh.”
The energy department claimed the state government had even invited NTPC to set up power projects in UP, including in the arid Bundelkhand region, and provide 90 per cent power to the host.
