Uttar Pradesh has emerged on the top in providing maximum number of job opportunities in the services sector compared to other states.
An estimated 33 million people were employed in the sector pan-India, of which UP alone accounted for 4 million heads, or 12 per cent.
According to the National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO) report, Uttar Pradesh is followed by Andhra Pradesh (11 per cent), Maharashtra (10 per cent), West Bengal (10 per cent) and Tamil Nadu (9 per cent).
UP also accounts for the maximum number of services sector enterprises at 14 per cent.
Of the estimated 16.5 million service sector units in the country, over 2.3 million are based in UP, followed by West Bengal (13 per cent), Andhra Pradesh (10 per cent) and Maharashtra (9) per cent.
Meanwhile, the state government has authorised ‘Udyog Bandhu’ under the state industrial department as the nodal agency for the development of the service sector in UP, including redress of grievances after realising its employment generating potential.

Udyog Bandhu is the interface between the government and the industry and is mandated to boost industrialisation by facilitating time-bound and single window clearances to proposals.
The service sector broadly includes hotels and restaurants, transport, roads, financial services, telecommunication, commercial activities, real estate, travel and tourism, education, health, social and community works, among others.
