UP worst in elementary schooling

Puducherry is first, followed by Lakshadweep, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. Delhi is ranked sixth

Uttar Pradesh, shows the Union human resource development ministry's data on the ranking of states on access to elementary schooling, is last on the national list of 29 states and seven Union Territories.

Puducherry is first, followed by Lakshadweep, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. Delhi is ranked sixth.

The Educational Development Index is based on parameters such as access to schools, infrastructure availability in these, teacher availability and outcomes. The annual statistic is compiled as part of the District Information System for Education, covering 1.45 million schools over 662 districts.

The statistics show the national percentage of girls' enrolment from classes I to V down from 48.35 in 2011-12 to 48.36 in 2012-13 and 48.2 in 2013-14.
