Describing the Congress-led UPA government as "visibly paralysed" during its tenure, Uttarakhand Chief Minister today alleged that it misused official machinery to remain in power.
"For the sake of power, the UPA government joined hands with those parties which were earlier opposing them. When Communists withdrew the support, they took the support of Samajwadi Party (to save the government)," Khanduri said in an interview a day before the state is scheduled to go to polls on May 13.
"The UPA government was non-performing, totally irresponsible and visibly paralysed during its tenure," he said.
Khanduri also alleged that the central government has no strategies for dealing with the menace of terrorism, checking the rate of inflation or minimising the impact of global meltdown on the country.
He said the UPA also destroyed the sanctity of Lok Sabha by trying to buy MPs during the trust vote.
In this regard, Khanduri described the tenure of previous BJP-led NDA government at the centre as "golden era" and said it carried out the Pokharan nuclear test despite pressure from international community.
"Even after the big countries imposed sanctions on us, we continued the work of development in the country," Khanduri said.
