The Obama Administration has said it is having a close relationship with Pakistan on security related issues and both the countries face a common threat from terrorism.

"I do want to reemphasise that the United States and Pakistan work closely together on security issues in combating terrorism that threatens both of our societies," the State Department Acting Spokesman, Gordon Duguid, said.

"We have had a close relationship with the Pakistani Government and I suspect that we will continue to work with them in pursuance of a policy that blunts the ability of extremist groups to attack both of our societies," Duguid told reporters.

However, the State Department official declined to comment on the arrest of the top Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar in Karachi, which is being said to be a major catch for the US.

"There have been other instances of such cooperation and I expect them to continue. On this particular press report, I don't have anything further for you," Duguid said when asked about the arrest of the Taliban leader.
