USA to open consulate in Hyderabad

To cope with the ever-increasing rush of visa seekers from India, the United States of America (USA) would open a new consulate general in Hyderabad next year.

Disclosing this here today, a top official of the Bush administration said
one-third of visa seekers from the southern region were from Andhra Pradesh and hence the decision to open this facility.

Maura Harty, assistant secretary, Bureau of Consular affairs, who is currently visiting India, said US authorities had reported 407,000 arrivals from India in 2006
