Uttar Pradesh has ruled out any reduction in sales tax on petrol and diesel to reduce the burden on consumers of fuel price hike effected by the government last week.

The state had asked the central government to give 25% subsidy on diesel used by farmers for agricultural purpose. " I have written to Petroleum Minister Murli Deora and Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for the 25% subsidy," Ashok Bajpai, agriculture minister in the UP govt, said.

UP levies 25% sales tax on petrol and 20% on diesel.
