The Uttarakhand government has decided to bring a vote on account instead of a regular Budget in the assembly session, beginning February 24.

“We are going to present a vote on account,” confirmed a top government official.

Although a couple of states including Uttar Pradesh have presented a regular Budget, the reasons behind the state government’s move to go for the vote on account were not known. “It is a prerogative of the Chief Minister,” the official said.

But the sources said that Chief Minister BC Khanduri showed no enthusiasm to present the regular Budget since there was still a plenty time left for the approval of the plan size by the Centre. “Since the election code of conduct is expected any time, we cannot delay the process of sanctioning of various funds,” a source close to the chief minister told Business Standard.

Another reason being cited for the presentation of the vote on account is the current financial crisis being faced by the hill state.
