The BJP government in Uttarakhand has decided to promote cow urine business in a big way.

The government today decided to set up a cow institute at the holy city of Rishikesh on the public private partnership (PPP) mode. A decision to effect was taken by a meeting of the state cabinet which was presided over by Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. Later briefing reporters, Chief Secretary N S Napalachayal said the government would provide nearly 20 acres of land at Rishikesh for setting up the cow centre which would be christened as cow science and technology institute.

The government has set a target of preparing 10000 liters of distilled concentration of cow urine per day at the new institute which would be developed as a world class research centre, Napalchayal said. “The cow urine business has big potential in our state which in two-three years can create a market of Rs 200-300 crore,” said Agriculture Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.

The sources said the government is also looking for a partnership with various ashrams and akharas in Rishikesh and Haridwar where Patajili Yogpeeth of Baba Ramdev has already ventured into this business. The competitive bids for the cow institute would be invited within 15 days. Already, the government has started to work to collect cow urines from farmers all over the state.

Besides, the cabinet also decided to set up an ayush centre at Kotdwar to promote alternate medicines. It would also be developed as centre for excellence for which the government would seek financial and logistic support from the Centre.

The government has also decided to set up a panchkarma unit at Dehra Dun also.
