Our Regional Bureau BUSINESS STANDARD

The Uttaranchal government is likely to conduct a probe into why the public sector Electronic Corporation of India Ltd (ECIL) was awarded contracts for providing computer education only in two districts of the state despite quoting the lowest bid, highly placed sources said yesterday.

The Uttaranchal government had recently floated tenders inviting bids from various infotech firms for imparting computer education in all the 13 districts of the state.

While ECIL, which had quoted Rs 162 per month for providing an MCA degree to a student, has been awarded contracts for providing infotech education only in Udham Singh Nagar and Hardwar, in the remaining 11 districts of the state, Aptech, a private firm, has been given the contract despite quoting Rs 350 per month per student.

Government officials failed to give any plausible reason behind the move.
