The unrest over the Amarnath land row today spilled over other parts of the country as activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) blocked roads and railway tracks and forcing the traffic to a halt in large areas of Delhi.

The VHP launched this protest against the cancellation of land transfer to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB). VHP general secretary Parveen Togadia warned of more protest programmes. "The central government must give back the land to the Amarnath shrine board. Otherwise our protest will continue," he said.

Meanwhile, the ruling Congress has convened a meeting of its committee on Jammu and Kashmir to discuss the current situation and find possible solutions to end the crisis.

In Chhattisgarh too, there were road blockades in at least dozens of busy squares in capital Raipur. There were traffic blockades reported at places like Bilaspur, Jagdalpur, Durg, Bhilai, Korba and Raigarh. Several trains were also stuck at stations as the VHP and the BJP activists squatted on tracksin Chhatisgarh. Trains on the Mumbai-Howrah route have been delayed.
