Business tycoon Vijay Mallya, well known for his flamboyance, has bought the “best house in Cape Town”, South Africa, located at the posh Nettleton Road, for $8.4 million (Rs 38.4 crore), says a Sunday Times report.
“Indian liquor baron and Formula One team owner Vijay Mallya has splashed out 60 million rands ($8.4 million) for a Cape Town mansion in which Hollywood star Nicolas Cage once slept on embroidered pillows,” the newspaper said.
Shielded from the wind, the four-storied mansion overlooks the Clifton beach and boasts of a sauna, walk-in safe, gym and garage space for four cars.
The local estate agents described the mansion, which has hosted movie stars, singers and royalty, as “the best house in Cape Town”.
Prince Carl Philip of Sweden stayed in the mansion during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and singer George Michael lived here last year. Also, Nicolas Cage and his third wife, Alice Kim, stayed here six years ago, while shooting for Lord of War. “The bedroom on the top level has an amazing penthouse feel,” the paper quoted Stefan Antoni, the area’s in-vogue architect and the mansion’s designer.
