Tension mounted in Nuagaon village in the trouble torn project site of Posco’s proposed mega steel plant near Paradip in Orissa with the company officials distributing some study materials and dress items among the poor people in the village with an aim to win their support for the project.

Irked by this move of the company, some anti-Posco activists detained three company officials including deputy general manger of the company’s Kujang office for three hour yesterday before releasing them unharmed. The Posco officials visited the village without any prior intimation to the district administration and panchyat, sources said.

It may be noted the South Korean steel major, facing ire of the locals over land acquisition for the project, recently announced formation of Posco Foundation to carry out welfare activities in the field of health, education, livelihood and rehabilitation of poor people in the project affected area.
