The government today announced the appointment of Vinod Rai as Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India with effect from the date he assumes charge of the office. Rai, a 1972 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Kerala Cadre, is presently working as Secretary, Department of Financial Services in the Ministry of Finance. Rai was to retire from service on May 31, 2008. Prior to taking over as Financial Services Secretary, Rai was additional secretary in the banking division of the finance ministry. He holds a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Delhi, and Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University. Rai will take charge as CAG from V N Kaul. According to information on the official website, Kaul is an IAS officer of the 1965 cadre, and has been CAG since 15 March, 2002. He is the external auditor of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Rome, World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva, International Maritime Organization (IMO), London, and World Tourism Organization (WTO), Madrid. |
