Trading activity was hit in industrial hubs of Jalandhar, Phagwara and Amritsar in Punjab following incidents of large scale violence in the state sparked by the killing of a Dera leader in Austria.
The bilateral trade with Pakistan through Attari-Wagah route was also affected with exporters holding back their supplies.
Acknowledging the impact on bilateral trade through Attari-Wagah route, Amritsar Customs Commissioner Tarkeshwar Singh said, "Exporters are not getting trucks for clearance of their goods although actual impact would be known tomorrow."
Narain Export Import's Rajdeep Uppal said that they had stopped their truck movement carrying goods to Pakistan.
The impact of violence on industrial activity has also forced many exporters to reschedule their shipments. "Although exact (export) loss at this point of time could not be figured out, exporters must have to reschedule their shipments owing to violence," United Cycles Parts and Manufacturers Association President Charanjit Singh said, adding this would aggravate the problems they face due to recession in the West.
In Ludhiana, transactions at Concor's Inland Container Depot were also affected adversely as exporters could not get trucks for shipments.
Almost all industrial units in Jalandhar, Phagwara and Amritsar remained shut.
