Vodafone gets Karnataka HC breather on I-T demand

The Karnataka High Court on Thursday granted an interim stay on a Rs 257-crore income tax demand notice served on Vodafone South. The I-T Department had served a demand notice on Vodafone South on non-deduction of tax deducted at source on payments made to foreign entities on roaming services pertaining to assessment year 2008-12.

Vodafone had subsequently petitioned against the demand notice.The Karnataka HC, while granting an interim stay, had directed the I-T Commissioner to hear and dispose the matter on March 20 and asked Vodafone to furnish bank guarantee by March 12.
