Vpt Surpasses Target For Cargo Handling

With 11 days still remaining for the completion of the current fiscal, Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) has crossed the cargo handling target of 44.4 million tonnes fixed by the shipping ministry in the memorandum of understanding for the 2002-2003, by achieving the handling of 44.41 million tonnes as on March 19.

According to a port press release, the port as also exceeded the throughput of 44.34 million tonnes achieved in the previous year 2001-2002.

Despite of several constraints the port is all set to reach highest ever throughput of 46 million tonnes by the end of current fiscal, port official said.

 

Till March19, Visakhapatnam port handled 164.41 lakh tonnes of petroleum products, 98.36 tonnes of iron ore and pellets, 30.82 lakh tonnes of thermal coal, 64.65 lakh tonnes of coking coal and 85.83 lakh tonnes of other cargo. (According to the release port has achieve several national re year.)
