Waiting for experts report on Societies Registration Act: Govt

Societies Registration Act, which is administered by the Corporate Affairs Ministry, dates back to 1860

The government today said it will frame a model law for registration of societies across the country, after an expert group constituted in this regard submits its suggestions after studying the existing framework.

The Societies Registration Act is currently a state-level legislation and an Expert Group has been constituted by the Corporate Affairs Ministry to study the legislative and regulatory architecture of this Act.

"The report of Expert Group on draft model law on Societies Registration is still awaited," Corporate Affairs Minister Sachin Pilot said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.

He was responding to query whether the government is considering to facilitate formulating a model law based on the recommendation of the expert group.

Pilot said that the Expert Group would also suggest a model law on the subject.
