The Union rural development ministry is awaiting expenditure approval for operationalising the Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM), a senior ministry official said here on Monday.

"The report to operationalise SPMRM has been prepared by the expert committee set up by the ministry of rural development. Suggestions were invited from various state governments and Gujarat has also submitted its suggestions for SPMRM," said, S M Vijayanand, special secretary, union ministry of rural development.

"As per the Government of India system, we have to now go to the finance expenditure for approval for rolling out the SPMRM," the senior bureaucrat said.

Vijayanand, who was speaking on the sidelines of 'National Conference on Rurbanisation' in Ahmedabad on Monday, though, did not specify a time-frame to roll out the scheme.

Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission aiming to deliver integrated project based infrastructure in rural areas was announced in this year's Union Budget. The preferred mode of delivery would be through Public Private Partnership (PPP) while using funds of various schemes.

Capital expenditure in SPMRM will be shared in the ratio of 60:40 between the MoRD and the state government. While, in North-eastern states and Sikkim, it will be in the ratio of 80:20.

Meanwhile, in his address, Vijayanand batted for bridging various divides in the society - the divide between the rich and the poor, the divide between the urban and the rural.
