WaterHealth India (WHIN), a subsidiary of WaterHealth International Inc (WHI), a drinking water solutions provider to rural communities worldwide, on Wednesday entered into an agreement with the Hyderabad-headquartered L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI). |
Under the tie up, WHIN will install four WaterHealth centres at LVPEI's hospital, research and training centre in Hyderabad and its tertiary centres at Kismatpur on the city outskirts, Visakhapatnam and Bhubaneshwar, each with an investment of Rs 15 lakh. |
"Blindness and water borne diseases are serious public health problems with global impact. We, therefore, investigated alternative approaches to provide safe drinking water to our patients, staff and visitors at our campuses, besides utilisation in our operations theatres," G N Rao, chairman of LVPEI, told reporters. |
WHI, which uses UV Waterworks, an ultraviolet disinfection technology developed by an Indian scientist Ashok Gadgil, has nearly 650 installations of its water purification and disinfection systems globally. In India, it has installed nearly 200 systems, with the capacity to serve approximately 1.6 million people. |
"We are at present negotiating with a few healthcare institutions, both in India and elsewhere, for deploying our systems," Sudesh Menon, chief executive officer of WHIN, said. |
