"Somnath Chatterjee has taken a courageous stand to protest the move of the party to vote along with BJP to bring down the UPA government," WBPCC leader Manas Bhuiyan, who is also the chief whip of the Congress Legislature party, told reporters in his Assembly chamber.
"We congratulate Chatterjee for his stand that if he remains in the post, he may not have to join hands with the communal forces in compliance with the party decision."
Bhuiyan alleged sheer "anti-Congressism" had prompted the BJP and CPI(M) to come closer once again.
"It reminds me of 1977 when CPI(M) had joined hands with Jana Sangh with the slogan 'Indira hatao desh bachaon'. Again, in 1989, BJP and CPI(M) joined hands with the slogan 'Rajiv Hatao, Desh Bachaon'."
