The Orissa chief minister and the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo Naveen Patnaik today exuded confidence that his party will get the required majority to form a stable government in the state.

“We are going to secure a handsome majority to form a stable government in Orissa”, Patnaik told the media after his meeting with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Prakash Karat in Bhubaneswar.

On the other hand, BJD will not support any government led either by the Congress or the BJP. This signals a clear shift towards the Left-led third front.

Referring to Karat’s visit, he said, since BJD is not going to support a Congress or BJP-led government at the Centre, the party is obviously with the Third Front. Karat’s visit was to hold discussions with him on the recent political situation, he added.

It may be noted that the BJD had a pre-poll alliance with the CPI, CPI (M) and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) for both the Assembly and Parliamentary elections.
