We respect role of Indian authorities: Sarin |

Just a day after attacking "vested interests" in the telecom sector for influencing the Indian bureaucracy to try and derail their entry into India by taking over Hutchison-Essar, Vodafone CEO Arun Sarin today said he merely wanted to highlight the speedy approval process, and added that he has respect for the role of the Indian authorities in scrutinising transactions. Talking to leaders in Silicon valley over the weekend, Sarin had lashed out at rivals and hinted at how they tried to influence the bureaucracy by saying "I really do not expect people - the good and the great of India - to be calling cabinet secretaries and ministers to say you have to unwind this deal because we want a piece of it." Many senior executives in the telecom industry say the statement, which pin-pointed the cabinet secretary and ministers, was not in tune with Sarin |
