Web portal for start-ups to go online by next week: DIPP secretary

Says Centre working with states to clarify legal, operational and labour regulations of start-ups

'Silicon Valley spirit' guides policymakers, start-ups look for a deal

The government will be unveiling a web portal for start-up enterprises aimed at increasing the ease of doing business in the country by next week, newly appointed secretary of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) Ramesh Abhishek said on Friday.

Speaking at an interaction session organized by Industry body Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries (Ficci), Abhishek said the government is working with various state governments to clarify the legal, operational and labor regulations of start ups.

He also hinted at an April deadline for a common Business Identification Number (BIN) for all business enterprises in the country. Other than removing difficulties in policy implementation and planning by the government for business and industry, he said this was in step with the government's overall plans for a simplified operating regime in the country.

DIPP recently unveiled a definition of start-ups and announced a slew of proposals to bolster start-up enterprises as part of the Startup India campaign launched by the prime minister in January. This include a three-year tax holiday and relaxation of capital gains for funds by such enterprises.

However, larger issues such as keeping start-up companies and the wealth they create within the country are yet to be addressed.

In his first interaction with the media after taking charge, Abhishek said he would focus on the Make in India campaign as well as the development of industrial corridors across the country. He said the centre was in consultations with states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh regarding it.
