West Bengal's Advocate-General Anindya Mitra resigned today but no reason was officially cited for his decision to quit the post he held since the Mamata Banerjee government took the reins of the state in May, 2011.
Law minister Chandrima Bhattacharya said Mitra's resignation was accepted by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Mitra was replaced by Bimal Chatterjee, a senior barrister, on the instruction of the chief minister, she said.
