Western Australia plans to source staff from India

Visiting government representatives from Western Australia said south India was one of the potential places for human resources. It is planning to devise a package of measures to ease labour shortages by attracting more skilled workers either permanently or on working holidays.

Speaking to Business Standard, Eric Ripper, deputy premier, Minister for State Development, and Simon Jonson, regional director, Western Australia Trade Office, India, said going by the current demand Western Australia needs 400,000 people in the next 10 years mainly in hospitality, construction and medical.

 

The Bureau of Statistics, Australia, found a record 183,400 jobs vacant in November and that number had been growing by roughly 15 per cent a year.

India, especially southern part of the country, has good number of engineering and medical colleges, which can supply human resources to address the skilled labour storage in the state.

To promote and to attract people from this region, the Western Australian government is planning to conduct road shows in major cities. In Chennai, it is likely to happen in November.
