Ratlam division of Western Railway (WR) will soon introduce an SMS system to enable easy access to railway inquiry. The planning for the project has been initiated and the new system is likely to be put in operation in four months. The SMS system will let people know the actual position of trains easily using mobile phones. Unlike other systems, remembering the train number would not be a constraint and the system would run 24 hours, M KJain, divisional regional manager (DRM), Ratlam division of WR, said while on a one-day inspection of Indore railway station. Apart from regular expansion work underway at the station, the division is planning some more development works on both meter gauge and broad gauge. For meter gauge, an open-air waiting area - with umbrellas pitched at regular intervals for shade - would be set up near the parking area. For broad gauge, a new parking system enabling people to park their vehicles near the train boarding point, similar to the arrangement at Howrah, will be developed. The system, to be called as drive-in system, would be introduced for the first time in Madhya Pradesh, Jain said.
