The government today said harvesting of wheat in some parts of the country could get delayed because of continuing rain. However, this won’t impact the final output, it added.

Wheat harvest in most of the country usually starts from the third week of March.

“The current drizzling rains are good for the crop. If it continues in the coming weeks, then harvesting may delay,” minister of state for agriculture, Arun Yadav, told reporters on the sidelines of the Krishi Vigyan Mela.

Agreed H S Gupta, director, Indian Agricultural Research Institute: “This year, cold temperature and intermittent drizzling has continued till now and it is proving beneficial to the wheat crop. Bu the rains should stop now for a good harvest to take place by the end of this month.”
