Wheat purchase touches 3.65 lakh tonnes in Punjab

The procurement of wheat by government and private agencies in Punjab has touched over 3.65 lakh tonnes during the ongoing Rabi marketing season.

Of the total procurement of 3,65,512 tonnes, the government agencies purchased 3,61,442 tonnes, officials said.

The remaining was procured by private traders, they said.

Strict instructions had been issued that farmers should be paid within 48 hours of lifting of the wheat from grain markets, the officials said.

The state government had also set up Dispute Redressal Committees in every purchase center, they said.
