Widespread rains in Vidarbha region

The entire Vidarbha region has received widespread rains and two rivers in Nagpur district were overflowing, official sources said today.

Jam river in Katol, about 30 kms from here, was in spate, affecting the vehicular traffic between Nagpur and Katol. Lendhi was also overflowing at Jalakheda, about 40 kms from the city, they added.        

Nagpur has received 88.6 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours ending 8.30 am today. Rain waters entered in low-lying areas in Jambodeep Nagar and Jhingabai Takli.        

An old house collapsed in Cotton Market area but none was hurt, while a tree was uprooted near the High Court in Civil Lines, Fire Brigade said.        

 

The average rainfall in Nagpur division had been 74.55 mm and as many as 33 taluka places in the six districts of eastern Vidarbha have received excess rainfall (more than 60 mm ), the sources said.        

Since July 1, Gondia has recorded 102.30 mm rainfall followed by Bhandara (95.30mm), Gadchiroli (76.80mm), Chandrapur (45.15mm) and Wardha (23.60mm).
