It may be a windfall for the victorious Indian ‘men in blue’ after winning the cricket World Cup last night at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last night announced a cash award of Rs 1 crore each for all the Team India players in addition to the total prize money they pocketed this time.

Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit announced a cash award of Rs 2 crore for the team captain M S Dhoni and Rs 1 crore for Gautam Gambhir, Virendra Sehwag, Ashish Nehra and Virat Kohli.

With Uttarakhand having rich connections with both Dhoni and cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank announced a bungalow or residential plot at the picturesque hill resort of Mussoorie for both of them. Tendulkar is a frequent visitor to the hill state and Dhoni’s ancestral home is in Almora district of the hill state. Moreover, Dhoni last year married Sakshi Rawat, a resident of Dehradun.

Nishank also decided to name a sports stadium after Dhoni.

The CM said the entire Indian Cricket team would be invited for the platinum jubilee celebrations of the famous Jim Corbett park this year. Dhoni was appointed honorary wildlife warden of the Corbett Park last year.

Dhoni will also be honoured with ‘Uttarakhand Ratna Award’, the CM said.
